It is 5 miles below the rim, so is recommended that you do not do this as a day hike, but if you are in great shape it is doable. I was doing a rim to rim hike and stopped here for an overnight on the way up from Phantom Ranch. A really nice area, Lots of greenery and a nice campground. The rangers do presentations at the amphitheater. Water and toilets but no showers. I believe you can do a quick dip in the creek.
